Basketball Champions League club Bahcesehir College is the Winner of The Earthquake Awareness Game
On December 14, during the Basketball Champions League game opposing Bahcesehir College Sports Club to Surne Bilbao, multiple initiatives were taken by the Turkish club to draw attention to earthquakes.
ISTANBUL (Turkey) – On December 14, during the Basketball Champions League game opposing Bahcesehir College Sports Club to Surne Bilbao Basket, multiple initiatives were taken by the Turkish club to draw attention to earthquakes.
At the Ülker Sports and Event Hall, Bahcesehir College has added a new one to the earthquake awareness project that they started during the 2019-20 season. Since the start of its campaign, the club has been supporting and promoting the United Nations Sustainable Development, especially article 11, named ''Sustainable Cities and Communities''.
For this occasion, the Red Dragons wore special edition jerseys re-using the orange color of article 11 and including all the SDG logos and promoted the motto #SallanmadanHazırlanalım (#GetReadyBeforeEarthquake).
In addition, brochures explaining what to do during the earthquake and a flashlight, which is an important material for earthquake bags, were distributed to the fans who came to the venue. A light show was held with the flashlights in the hall during half-time and a banner, with the statement “Being prepared for earthquakes saves lives", was presented prior to the tip-off.

A video message sent by Alex Mejia, Chairman of the Board of Directors of CIFAL Global Network, one of the supporting organizations of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, was also displayed in the hall. The club is also organically linked to the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) as the honorary president, Mr. Enver Yücel, is a member of the UN Advisory Board. The CIFAL Istanbul team and the UNITAR Istanbul team followed the match in the venue as well.
Bahçeşehir College also hosted primary and secondary school students living in Düzce, where an earthquake occurred last month, in this game. The club is committed to social initiatives for youths and has others campaigns such as “Would You Play With Me” whose goal is to collect toys during games to redistribute them to families in less favorable conditions.
