VIENNA (Youth-Basketball Tournament) - Last week Europe's biggest Youth-Basketball Tournament "Basketball Wien 2007" had its 17th round. The record number of 470 participating teams assembled 5000 basketball players in the Austrian capital.
The players stayed in classrooms of 12 schools with their sleeping bags. The boys and girl played their games on 33 courts. It needed about 1000 games until the tournament winners in all age categories were decided. The games were framed by spectacular side events and a show programme, for example the big Dunking Contest in the Wiener Stadthalle.
Organizer Peter Krappel summarized the tournament week very positively: "Basketball Wien 2007 was a milestone in the history of our event. The record number of 470 teams brought incredible 5000 athletes to Vienna and outscored everything that happened before. For one week Basketball-Europe had its' eye on Vienna. The Organizers are proud of the fact, that for many years now "Basketball Wien" is drawing huge numbers of participants to the tournament and has established itself as a fixed star in the European basketball scene." And for those who missed this year's tournament: "Basketball Wien 2008" is already in preparation.
