The Perth Wildcats have signed a young new talent in the form of 21-year-old guard Stephen Weigh.

Weigh, who has just returned to Australia from the US, has signed a three-year contract.

The exciting young tall averaged 19 points and five rebounds a per game during his two-year stint at the Australian Institute of Sport before heading to the University of Utah.

Weigh was named MVP of the Australian Under-20 National tournament in 2005 and was the top scorer at the FIBA International tournament in July 2005, averaging 18 points a game.

The Wildcats have also appointed Mick Downer as Connor Henry's assistant for the next two years.

Downer arrives at the NBL club following his stint as head coach of Basketball WA's High Performance Programs.
