Australia - King of Kings Brian Goorjian leaves Sydney

Sydney Kings NBL coach Brian Goorjian has quit and already is being linked to South Dragons and Perth Wildcats, most believing a Dragons' deal is already done. After months of speculation, the national men's basketball coach yesterday issued a statement saying the franchise had agreed to an early termination of his contract. Goorjian had been a key to the Kings' success over the past six years, reaching five grand finals and winning three NBL championships.

Despite losing just three regular season games and narrowly losing a thrilling grand final series this year to the Tigers, the Kings have struggled financially, rumours building Goorjian would return to Melbourne.

Off court dramas reached a head when a memo was leaked to the media last week revealing owner Tim Johnston was threatening to fine or suspend players who spoke out about the behind-the-scenes problems the club was facing.

"I wish the Sydney Kings and all associated with the club the very best for the future," Goorjian said.
