Australia announce LOC Board for FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2022
SYDNEY (Australia) - FIBA Central Board Member David Reid is to serve as Chairman of the Local Organising Committee Board for the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2022 in Sydney.
SYDNEY (Australia) - FIBA Central Board Member David Reid is to serve as Chairman of the Local Organising Committee Board for the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2022 in Sydney.
A lawyer based in Newcastle, New South Wales, Reid is Deputy Chairman of Basketball Australia (BA). He will oversee the staging of the competition at Sydney Olympic Park from September 22 to October 1.

Deputy Co-Chairs are Bob Elphinston, who served as FIBA President from 2006 to 2010, and former Australian Opals' representative Bronwyn Marshall, the current chair of Basketball Queensland. Elphinston will be responsible for the Event Services Advisory Committee while Marshall will oversee the Athletes Services Advisory Committee.
Other LOC Board appointees include Zenith Australia Chief Executive Officer and Basketball Australia Director Nickie Scriven (Communications & Promotion), Basketball NSW Chief Executive Officer Maria Nordstrom (Legacy) and Basketball Australia Chief Executive Officer Jerril Rechter AM.
Samantha Lewis (Finance & Risk), Luke Bould (advisor on commercial matters), Leeanne Grantham (Competitions & Venues) and Jan Willett (representative for NSW Government) complete the 10-strong LOC Board.

"Not only will the 2022 FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup showcase the extraordinary talents of the participating athletes and officials, but the event will leave a lasting legacy for basketball in Australia and promote the sport around the world."
As the host nation, Australia have automatic entry to the World Cup. It is the first time the country has staged the event since 1994.
Four FIBA Qualifying Tournaments will be held in February 2022 to determine the other 11 national teams in the World Cup field.
