ATHENS (2010 FIBA World Championship) - Matt Nielsen of Australia led Power Electronics Valencia to Eurocup glory earlier this year but instead of remaining with the team for its return to the Euroleague, he’s decided to join Olympiacos.
The veteran has penned a two-year deal with the Piraeus outfit.
Olympiacos, winners of the Greek Cup but runners-up in the Euroleague to Regal Barcelona and in the Greek play-offs to Panathinaikos, will be coached next season by Serbia’s national team boss Dusan Ivkovic.
The Reds have also lured Vassilis Spanoulis away from rivals Panathinaikos.
Olympiacos announced Nielsen’s arrival on their website.
The club said: “Olympiacos BC announces the agreement with Matt Nielsen. The international Australian power forward will be a player of our team for the next two seasons.”
Nielsen can now turn his attention to Australia and the FIBA World Championship.
They will play in Group A against Argentina, Serbia, Germany, Angola and Jordan.
