SYDNEY (Coaches) - The Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) is pleased to announce that Patrick Hunt will be taking on the new role of AIS Applied Technical Advancement Coach commencing in January 2009.
The new position will focus on assisting AIS coaches to develop their skills in a range of technical areas.
Hunt will be drawing on his extensive experience in setting up the NITCP network for basketball, which has included a strong element of coach and player development.
The program, run by Hunt over the past 16 years, has been an industry leader in the targeted development of elite coaches.
AIS Director Professor Fricker said Hunt’s appointment is a major step in the AIS coach technical development program both nationally and internationally.
‘Patrick is highly regarded nationally and internationally and his international experience and proven expertise will enhance the environment for our coaches and put the shine on our culture of excellence,’ Professor Fricker said.
Hunt, who has coached over 350 games representing Australia, was the Head Coach of the Canberra Cannons in the Australian National Basketball League in 1981.
He was one of the initial Coaches at the AIS Basketball program and has been with the Institute from its inception in 1981.
He is also a former Head Coach of the Australian National Junior Men’s Team (the Emu’s) coaching at two World Junior Men’s Championships as Assistant Coach and two World Junior Men’s Championships as Head Coach.

Hunt serves as an Executive Member of the FIBA World Association of Basketball Coaches (WABC) and President of FIBA Oceania WABC.
Basketball Australia CEO Scott Derwin congratulated Hunt on his new position praising him for the enormous contribution he had made to Basketball.
‘Patrick will be an enormous loss to basketball but we are delighted to know that he will remain involved with the AIS programs, of which basketball is one,’ Derwin said.
‘He has given tremendous service to basketball through the AIS for over 15 years and is recognised right around the world for his expertise.”
