CANBERRA (WNBL) - The defencejobs WNBL is proud to announce Bulleen Melbourne Boomers centre Hollie Grima as the 2006/07 defencejobs WNBL Most Valuable Player.
The 23-year old world champion and Commonwealth Games gold medallist finished the regular season as the League’s leading points scorer and the League’s leading rebounder.
She netted 403 points at 19.2 points per game and pulled in a season high 234 rebounds at 11.1 per game, including a League-leading 8.4 defensive rebounds per game.
Simultaneously, Grima has also been selected to the WNBL All-Star Five for the first time.
In addition to 37 assists, 22 blocked shots and 18 steals in an average 39.7 minutes (of a possible 40 minutes) per game on court, Grima was also the League’s only player to average double figures in rebounding.
Grima posted 13 double-doubles (double figures in two categories) over 21 games and was named Nivea Player of the Week in rounds 3, 7 and 10, as well as defencejobs WNBL Player of the Month for December and January.
Grima joins an illustrious group of past MVP winners, including Rachael Sporn, Robyn Maher, Trish Fallon, Penny Taylor and four-time winner Lauren Jackson.
The MVP award is determined by votes cast by head coaches after each regular season game, where voting for one’s own players is permitted.
