MELBOURNE (WNBL) - Australia national team boss Carrie Graf has been named Coach of the Month in the Women’s National Basketball League after leading Canberra Capitals to seven victories in eight games.

The club reeled off the wins, despite the loss of center Suzy Batkovic to a knee injury in their first game against Bulleen.

They are now 10-1 on the young season.

“We had a massive overhaul of our roster and then Suzy goes down in game one so we could quite literally be sitting here on five and four without the girls even playing terribly,” Graf said.

“But the new people we’ve brought in have really bought in and the people that we’ve had here continue to set standards and do the work.

"We’ve had a great run so far – we have a lot ahead of us but so far so good.”

Graf coached Australia to a fifth-place finish at the FIBA World Championship for Women this summer in the Czech Republic.

Sydney Uni Flame Amy Denson has been named Player of the Month in the Women’s National Basketball League.

The former Arizona State star in American college basketball has averaged 23.1 points and 7.6 rebounds per game.
