AUS - FIBA President inducted into sport Australia Hall of Fame
MELBOURNE (FIBA) - FIBA President, Bob Elphinston, was inducted into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame, in Melbourne on Tuesday, 10th October as an Associate Member, in recognition of the significant contributions he had made in the sport of basketball and for the Olympic Games in Australia. The SAHOF was established in 1985 and annually recognises the Sporting Greats of Australia
MELBOURNE (FIBA) - FIBA President, Bob Elphinston, was inducted into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame, in Melbourne on Tuesday, 10th October as an Associate Member, in recognition of the significant contributions he had made in the sport of basketball and for the Olympic Games in Australia.
The SAHOF was established in 1985 and annually recognises the Sporting Greats of Australia.
Elphinston joined Players... Andrew Gaze, Phil Smyth and Michelle Timms... Coaches... Lindsay Gaze... and Administrators Ivor Burge(deceased) and Perry Crosswhite... as the previous basketball inductees.
Bob Elphinston was recognised for his work in basketball over the past 40 years which included Life Memberships of Bankstown,New South Wales and Australian Basketball Associations; Founding Director of the National Basketball League;Manager of the 1984 Olympic Mens Basketball Team; Founding President of the Australian Basketball Coaches Association; Radio and Television Commentator over many years, President of FIBA Oceania culminating in his recent election as FIBA President.
In the Olympic Movement, Bob is recognised for his outstanding contributions to the winning of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Bid; the very successfull staging of the Sydney Olympic Games where he was awarded the Olympic Order by the IOC Presiident; his subsequent roles with the Australian and International Olympic Committees and the Organising
