BULLEEN (WNBL) – The huge young talent of Australian women’s basketball, Liz Cambage, has been named Player of the Week for the second time this season in the WNBL following a dominating display at the weekend.
The 2.03m Bulleen Boomers center, who is still just 18 years old, tore apart the Adelaide Lightning on Saturday with 30 points and 16 rebounds and came up with two steals in a 79-66 win.
Cambage was the leading scorer at the 2009 FIBA U19 World Championship for Women in Thailand. She averaged 20.4 points as Australia finished fifth in that competition.
At Bulleen, her head coach is Tom Maher, the former national team boss of Australia, New Zealand and China.
Maher also holds the reins of the Great Britain women.
Cambage will later this year attempt to make the roster of the Australia national side, which will take aim at a second consecutive gold medal at the FIBA World Championship for Women in the Czech Republic.
