    Qatar lock in final roster, seven back from FIBA Asia Championship

    DOHA (2016 FIBA Asia Challenge) – Qatar will have no shortage of experience when they travel to Iran for the FIBA Asia Challenge in September.

    DOHA (2016 FIBA Asia Challenge) – Qatar will have no shortage of experience when they run onto the court on 9 September in Tehran, Iran.

    Seven of the 12-man squad that will compete at the 2016 FIBA Asia Challenge featured at the 2015 FIBA Asia Championship in Changsha-Hunan.

    Abdulrahman Saad, Mohamed Hassan Mohamed, Abduallah Matalkeh, Erfan Saeed, Abdelrahman Abdelhaleem, Mohd Yousuf Mohmmed and Khalid Adam all featured for the team that finished secured seventh spot.

    Joining them on the list is Qatar’s 3x3 old-timer Boney Watson. The naturalized players is in his late 30-s and it will be interesting to see how he will perform in Tehran in September.

    Qatar, who are coached by Vasileios Fragkias, will take on hosts and defending champions Iran and fellow Arabs Iraq in Group C in Tehran.

    Before travelling to Tehran for the FIBA Asia Challenge, Al-Annabi will be heading to Dubai (UAE) to participate in the 15th GCC Basketball Championship.

    The sub-zone Championship featuring KSA, UAE, Oman and Bahrain will tip-odd this Sunday 28th of August until September 3 and the winner will clinch an automatic place in next year’s FIBA Asia Cup, the new name of the continental FIBA Asia Championship.
