    ANKARA (2010 FIBA World Championship) – Argentina claimed a very important scalp ahead of the FIBA World Championship on Monday night.

    Sergio Hernandez’s team, holding the number one spot in the FIBA World Rankings, beat Turkey in overtime, 93-89.

    Carlos Delfino, whose role has grown in importance this summer with the absence of shooting guard Manu Ginobili from the Argentina squad, had 30 points for the victors.

    The Argentinians also received big games from Luis Scola, who scored 14 while hauling in six rebounds and handing out four assists, Pablo Prigioni (9pts, 13ass) and Leo Gutierrez (12pts, 4rbs).

    For Turkey, Semih Erden scored 15 points and had eight rebounds while Kerem Tunceri and Hedo Turkoglu each had 14.

    Big man Omer Asik finished with 11 points and nine boards in a losing effort.

    Argentina’s first game at the FIBA World Championship on Saturday in Kayseri is against Germany, while Turkey tip off their campaign against Ivory Coast in Ankara.
