MAR DEL PLATA (Liga Nacional) - Penarol moved a half-point clear at the top of the Liga Nacional second stage standings with a narrow win against Deportivo Libertad on Friday.

Leading by six points after three periods, Penarol had to hold on at the end as they picked up their third consecutive triumph, 68-66.

Pablo Rodriguez scored 13 points and picked up seven assists while Sebastian Festa grabbed six rebounds as Penarol overtook defending champions Gimnasia Y Esgrima for first place.

The team from Comodoro Rivadavia relinquished top spot after a 97-89 loss to Regatas.

Boca Juniors are in third place with a perfect 3-0 record after a 99-94 triumph against Central Entrerriano.

American-born shooting guard Byron Wilson was unable to celebrate his 500th Liga Nacional with a win as Obras went down 92-85 to QUIMSA.

Wilson, who holds the record for the most appearances by a foreign player in Argentine basketball, has previously won Liga Nacional titles with Boca (1996/97, 2003/04) and Estudiantes (2000/01).

He was the MVP in all three of his final wins.

In other games on Friday, Ciclista Juninense trounced Belgrano 86-64, Juventud Sionista downed Deportivo Madryn 90-84, Estudiantes defeated Ben Hur 61-47 and Quilmes scored a 76-60 victory against Atenas.
