Atenas stay top despite loss to Unión de Sunchales
BUENOS AIRES (Liga Nacional de Basquet) - Atenas de Córdoba fell to Unión de Sunchales 81-58 but still held on to first place in the second phase of the Argentinean National League.
James Williams had 23 points to lead Unión and Carlos Schattmann chipped in with 19, while Juan Pablo Cantero paced Atenas with 22 points and import Djibril Kante added 11.
Meanwhile, Peñarol continued to move up the standings by winning the classic in Mar del Plata, getting the better of Quilmes 78-72.
Kyle Lamonte scored 20 points and Facundo Campazzo contributed 13 in the winning cause. Peñarol used a 30-10 third quarter to take firm control of the contest and held on for the victory.
Elsewhere, Juventud Sionista de Paraná crushed Ciclista Olímpico de la Banda 73-53 thanks to a combined 30 points by Jimmy Boston and Daniel Hure.
Legendary shooting guard Juan Espil scored 29 points to lead Obras Sanitarias over La Unión de Formosa 78-72. Espil made seven of nine tries from three-point territory, connected on three of his four attempts from inside the arc and was perfect from the free-throw line, hitting both foul shots.
In other results, Estudiantes de Bahía Blanca edged out Quimsa Santiago del Estero 72-71, while Libertad cruised past Gimnasia (CR) 92-72 and Regatas Corrientes outlasted Central Entrerriano 66-64.
