    ARG - Leonardo wins MVP award

    BUENOS AIRES (Liga Nacional) - Ben Hur forward Leonardo Gutierrez has been voted the best player of the Argentinian Liga Nacional season. Gutierrez collected 31 of the 67 votes cast by journalists on behalf of the Ole newspaper

    BUENOS AIRES (Liga Nacional) - Ben Hur forward Leonardo Gutierrez has been voted the best player of the Argentinian Liga Nacional season.

    Gutierrez collected 31 of the 67 votes cast by journalists on behalf of the Ole newspaper which has run the competition since 1997.

    Gutierrez's beat his team-mate Diego Garcia, who gained 19 votes, into second place.

    The Marcos Juarez-born player averaged 17.5 points, 6.7 rebounds, 2.7 assists, one steal and one block in the 2005-06 Liga Nacional, in which Ben Hur made it into the play-offs as top-seeds.

    Gutierrez, who won an Olympic gold medal with Argentina in Athens 2004, made his debut in the national team in the South American Championship in 1999.

    Since then, he has won eight titles, including the silver medal in the 2002 FIBA World Championship.

    Gutierrez could soon be in line for more plaudits as the the Liga Nacional organisers are currently calling fans to vote for the MVP of the regular season.
