Penarol’s Jason Osbourne poured in 16 points but it was ultimately in vain.

Osbourne’s team-mate, Sebastian Festa, said: "We are very angry because we didn't play well and perhaps we were influenced by the home fans’ pressure.

“What hurts more is the fact that everyone around us lost as well.

“We wasted a great opportunity to put some distance between us and them.”

Reigning champions Gimnasia pipped Quilmes at home, 76-75 thanks to a late fightback in the forth quarter.

Wendell Gibson was Gimnasia’s top performer with 15 rebounds to go with his 13 points.
