PARANA (Liga Nacional) - Sebastian Ginobili proved that talent runs in the family with a MVP display in Quilmes’ 81-80 victory away to Juventud Sionista.
The brother of NBA star Manu Ginobili scored with just 1.1 seconds remaining to secure the win, which takes them to just one point behind league leaders Penarol, who were surprisingly beaten 76-66 at home to Deportivo Madryn.
Ginobili top-scored with 24 points, while Michael Robinson poured in 21 points for the eventual losers.
Penarol’s defeat came thanks to 15 points and four rebounds from Ryan Caroll, top-scorer Joshua Pittman’s 20 points were in vain.
Penarol and Quilmes face off next Wednesday in a game which will decide who enters the play-offs in top spot.
Elsewhere, Estudiantes beat Gimnasia 77-67 thanks to 19-9 third quarter which edged them ahead.
Although Gimnasia’s Charles Jones was the game’s top-scorer with 17 points, Jamaal Levy was crucial to the victory after notching up 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Finally, second-bottom Central Entrerriano shocked fourth-placed Libertad in a 84-69 win to edge them away from the foot of the table.
Gabriel Diaz top scored with 19 points, while Antonio Garcia made 14 with 13 rebounds.
Cleotis Brown grabbed 18 points for defeated Libertad.
