ARG - Ginobili set to make Argentina decision

BUENOS AIRES (FIBA Americas Championship) - Argentinian guard Emanuel Ginobili will decide within two weeks whether he will play at August’s FIBA Americas Championship in Las Vegas. The 29-year-old, who is averaging 16.8 points, 4.4 rebounds and 3.5 assists for the San Antonio Spurs this season, was named MVP as Argentina won the gold medal at the 2004 Olympics in Athens. Argentina open their FIBA Americas Championship campaign against Uruguay on August 23 after being drawn in Group A alongside Panama, Mexico and Puerto Rico and will be hoping to secure a place at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing with the teams that reach the final advancing to Beijing.

“I think that I will give my decision in one or two weeks,” Ginobili told TyC Sports.

“I have to give an answer in consideration with the Argentina's basketball Confederation and the national team head coach (Sergio Hernandez), so they can make plans with or without me.

“The NBA's rules establish that the player has to decide. I have a brilliant relationship with the franchise's board of directors and I will listen very carefully to what they have to say.

“I always want to play with the Argentinian team, but when they give me their point of view, I understand.”
