SAN ANTONIO (NBA) - Argentina superstar Manu Ginobili will not play anymore this season with the San Antonio Spurs because of his troublesome right ankle.

On Monday, the Spurs announced that Ginobili felt stiffness in his lower right leg during the Spurs-Cavaliers game in Cleveland on Sunday afternoon.

He returned to San Antonio and on Monday underwent a CT scan and an MRI.

"The examinations showed an increased marrow edema and a stress fracture in his right distal fibula," a Spurs statement said.

Ginobili, 32, originally injured his ankle in last year's play-offs.

He was operated on and recovered in time to play at the Olympics but went down with an ankle injury in his country’s Semi-Final defeat to the United States.

Ginobili had surgery again before this season and returned to action in late November, only to hit the sidelines again in February.

The veteran began playing again on March 25 but is now lost for the season.

The Spurs (49-27) are third in the Western Conference behind the Los Angeles Lakers (61-16), who have already clinched top spot, and Denver Nuggets (52-26).
