BUENOS AIRES (Olympics) – Argentina captured the South American Championship title over the weekend and four of the country’s key players in that triumph are to join the senior team in practice as they step up their preparations for the Olympics.
Three of the players – Paolo Quinteros, Juan Gutierrez and Roman Gonzalez – were in the Argentina team that captured silver last year at the FIBA Americas Championship in Las Vegas.
Guillermo Narvarte is the fourth to be invited by national team coach Sergio Hernandez.
"We are looking forward to having Paolo Quinteros, Juan Gutierrez, Roman Gonzalez and Guillermo Narvarte,” Hernandez said.
“We want to have the team as complete as possible and also congratulate them for what they achieved.
“We really enjoyed the title they won."
No matter what happens this summer in Beijing, where Argentina will try to defend their 2004 gold medal win, Argentina will have finished 2008 with a major honor.
“It gives me great pride,” Hernandez said.
“The players with most experience met the expectations that we had and the youngsters worked hard. I am really happy."
