BUENOS AIRES (FIBA Americas Championship) - Veteran tactician Nestor Garcia has joined the national team coaching staff of Argentina as an assistant to Julio Lamas.
"Che" Garcia, who has coached Uruguay's national side, is currently at the helm of Venezuelan outfit Marinos de Anzoátegui but has previously worked in Argentina’s Liga Nacional, including a stint in 1993-94 with Peñarol in Mar del Plata – the site of this year’s FIBA Americas Championship (August 30 to September 11).
He and Gonzalo García are the two men that will be working alongside Lamas.
The two finalists of the FIBA Americas Championship will qualify for the London Olympics.
The players that are confirmed selections by Lamas, barring injuries, are Pablo Prigioni, Manu Ginobili, Carlos Delfino, Andres Nocioni, Luis Scola, Hernán Jasen and Leonardo Gutiérrez.
