BILBAO (Copa del Rey) – Real Madrid had nothing to smile about after their 80-61 defeat to Barcelona in Sunday’s Copa del Rey final.

As the disappointment fades, however, Madrid’s Argentina international point guard Pablo Prigioni will at least be able to look back at the weekend and say he went into the record books.

Prigioni became the Copa’s all-time leading assists man, surpassing Pablo Laso’s 92 career assists in the annual event.

The Madrid man needed 13 assists before the Copa to break Laso’s long-held mark.

Prigioni had a total of 11 in Madrid’s wins over DKV Joventut on Friday and Caja Laboral on Saturday, and he established a new record with a pass to Felipe Reyes in the final quarter against Barcelona on Sunday before ending up with four in the game.

He now has 95 career Copa del Rey assists.

Prigioni will be the floor general for Argentina this summer at the FIBA World Championship in Turkey.

The number one team in the FIBA World Rankings will go up against Serbia, Australia, Germany, Jordan and Angola in the Preliminary Round in Kayseri.
