TORONTO (FIBA U18 Americas Championship 2018) - Canada Basketball announced the hiring of Dave Smart as Head Coach of the Canadian U18 National Team for the FIBA U18 Americas Championship 2018.

"Having the opportunity to coach Canada is always special, but the chance to lead some of Canada's top age-group athletes at home is truly an honor," said Smart.

Smart was named the assistant coach of Canada's senior men's national team in 2012. In 2015, Smart returned to the Canadian bench as an assistant coach, when the team finished third at the FIBA Americas Championship in Mexico City, Mexico.

Smart will command next month's U18 Selection Camp in Toronto and will lead the team at this summer's continental championship.

The FIBA Americas U18 Championship 2018 will be played June 10-16, and will feature the participation of Argentina, Chile, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Panama, Puerto Rico, USA and host Canada.

The top four teams from the continental championship will qualify to the FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup 2019.
