From underdogs to contenders, teams chase final World Cup tickets in Singapore

SINGAPORE – The road to the FIBA 3x3 World Cup 2026 continues as Singapore hosts the FIBA 3x3 World Cup Qualifier 2026 on April 11-12, setting the stage for a high-stakes showdown at The Kallang.

With only a few tickets left to the FIBA 3x3 World Cup 2026 in Warsaw, Poland (June 1-7), the pressure is on as teams battle for qualification in one of the most intense events on the 3x3 basketball calendar.

    What’s at stake

Six men’s and six women’s teams will compete for the final three spots in their respective tournaments at the FIBA 3x3 World Cup 2026.

Every possession matters in 3x3 basketball, and with such limited qualification spots available, expect do-or-die action from the very first game.

    Tournament format

The tournament will be played across three rounds:

    Round 1 (Pool Phase):

    • Teams are split into two pools of three. Each team plays the others once, with the top two advancing.

    Round 2 (Qualification Games):

    • The top team from each pool faces the second-placed team from the opposite pool.

    • Winners qualify directly for the FIBA 3x3 World Cup 2026.

    Round 3 (Last Chance Game):

    • The losing teams from Round 2 face off for the final qualification spot.

    Men’s pools

Pool A: Czechia, Singapore, Brazil Pool B: New Zealand, Italy, Egypt

A balanced field sees experienced sides and emerging contenders collide, with no clear favorites and every matchup carrying major implications. New Zealand, however, are coming in hot after just winning the FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup 2026.

    Women’s pools

Pool A: Hungary, Lithuania, Egypt Pool B: Philippines, Singapore, Brazil

Expect high-intensity matchups, with several teams capable of making a deep run to qualification. The Philippines, in particular, are on a high after earning an historic silver medal at the recent FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup 2026.

    Players to watch

The tournament will feature a mix of proven performers and rising stars ready to shine on the global stage.

    • Leonardo Branquinho (Brazil men): A seasoned scorer with a commendable track record on the world stage. He led Brazil to third-place at the FIBA 3x3 AmeriCup 2025.

    • Dario Masciarelli (Italy men): A smart playmaker who can control the tempo and hit big shots from lopng range. He led Italy to third-place at the FIBA 3x3 Europe Cup 2025.

    • Te Tuhi Lewis (New Zealand men): An explosive offensive weapon capable of taking over games who was just named FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup 2026 MVP.

    • Kacey De la Rosa (Philippines women): A rising talent representing the next generation of 3x3 players. She is a two-time university league MVP back home in Manila.

    • Klaudia Papp (Hungary women): A physical presence who anchors her team defensively. She already has World Cup experience, having played at the FIBA 3x3 World Cup 2025.

    • Gabriele Sulske (Lithuania women): A skilled and composed player, Gabriele Sulske brings balance and scoring ability to Lithuania’s lineup. She helped Lithuania to a seventh-place finish at the FIBA 3x3 Europe Cup 2025.

    Singapore: Growing 3x3 hub

The FIBA 3x3 World Cup Qualifier marks the fifth edition of the event, following previous stops in San Juan, Doha, Eilat and Baku. Its arrival in Singapore underscores the city’s growing importance in global 3x3 basketball.

In 2025, Montenegro, Canada and Great Britain qualified out of the Men's tournament. Meanwhile, Brazil, Latvia and Chile qualified out of the Women's tournament.

Coming right after the FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup 2026 (April 1-5), this tournament continues an exciting stretch of elite competition in Singapore.

The event is part of an extended partnership between FIBA and Sport Singapore (SportSG), aimed at growing the sport across the region through a series of major events in 2026 and 2027.

With over 1,100 basketball courts across the island, Singapore has built a strong grassroots foundation, making basketball one of the most accessible and widely played sports in the country.
