SANTO DOMINGO (Dominican Republic) - Hamlet Miguel Ruiz, José Joshua Sención, Fuhit Evens Edouard and Pedro Luis Concepción will be responsible for representing for the first time in 3x3’s history the Dominican Basketball Federation (Fedombal, for its Spanish acronym) during the FIBA 3x3 World Cup in Mongolia, from June 3 to 7.
The players were presented this week in a ceremony that took place in the James Rodríguez Room of the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center of the Ministry of Sports.
The Dominican Republic will be part of Group B, along Russia, Ukraine, Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan. The Caribbean delegation is one of the four nations of the Americas that will participate in this world event of this specialty; the others being United States, Argentina and Brazil.
Elka Jiménez, Director of the National 3x3 Basketball Commission, valued the growth that this modality has had in the nation that has moved up from the 124th spot in the August 2017 World Ranking to the 14th spot this year.
Meanwhile, Rafael Uribe, Fedombal President, emphasized the athletic quality of the Dominican players under the age of 18 and predicted that they’ll be successful in this event of worldwide significance.
The tournament will have a total of 20 teams for each sex, divided in four groups of five. The first two teams of each group will move on to the second round and will then play the rest of the games in a simple elimination format up until the final.
