Two more teams advance to FIBA AfroBasket 2021 Qualifiers

ABIDJAN (Cote d'Ivoire) - Groups B and D of the FIBA AfroBasket 2021 Qualifiers are now complete following pre-qualifiers series last week.

In Nairobi, hosts Kenya sealed five wins in as many games to advance to Group B of the Qualifiers, where they will play Angola, Mozambique and Senegal. 

The Kenyans beat Tanzania, Eritrea, Somalia, South Sudan and Burundi and will resume their quest to a place at FIBA Africa's elite competition in November at venue yet to be determined. 

Last week, Kenya men's team played a major tournament at home for the first time since 1993 when they hosted the African Championship.

Meanwhile, Algeria beat Cape Verde 79-67 in Game 1, but despite a 99-90 home defeat in Game 2, they won the series 169-166 on aggregate and they will now join Nigeria, Mali and Rwanda in Group D, whose action takes place in November qualifying window.

Algeria last played at FIBA AfroBasket back in 2015 where they finished sixth. 

The FIBA AfroBasket 2021 Qualifiers resumes this week in Harare, Zimbabwe, where Madagascar, Zimbabwe and Zambia will fight for the only ticket on offer for Group A, which includes Africa reigning champions Tunisia, Central African Republic and DR Congo.

The top three teams from each groups will automatically qualify to the FIBA AfroBasket 2021.

Below are the Groups for the FIBA AfroBasket 2021 Qualifiers :

Group A: Tunisia, Central African Republic, DR Congo, winner of Zone 6 and 7 (to be played in Harare from January 21-26)

Group B: Senegal, Angola, Mozambique and Kenya

Group C: Cameroon, Cote d'Ivoire, Guinea, winner of Zone 4 

Group D: Nigeria, Mali, Rwanda and Algeria

Group E: Morocco, Egypt, Uganda, winner of Zone 3
