Three FIBA Africa Zone 4 teams chase one AWBL ticket

YAOUNDE (Cameroon) - Three teams from FIBA Africa Zone 4 are set to do battle for the sole ticket on offer for the inaugural FIBA Africa Women's Basketball League (AWBL).

The regional qualifier is set to run from Friday, November 3 and will conclude on Sunday, November 5 in the Cameroonian capital city of Yaounde.

Two teams from Cameroon, Overdose Up Station and Universite Douala and the DR Congo's champions CNSS are all set to book their fight for Egypt, the site of the Final Round of the inaugural AWBL later this year, but first they need to pass the Yaounde test

In the first game of the qualifier, Overdose Up Station will take on fellow Cameroonians University Douala on Friday.

The three-team qualifier resumes on Saturday with CNSS making their debut in the tournament against University.

On Sunday, CNSS and Overdose Up Station will meet up for the final game of the qualifier.

This is a familiar event for the three contenders, who faced each other last year in Yaounde.

A year ago, Overdose Upstation got the better of Universite Douala (86-49) before beating CNSS 85-84 on the last day of the competition.  

Both, Overdose UpStation and CNSS finished first and second, respectively, and earned the right to represent the zone at the 2022 FIBA Africa Champions Cup in Maputo, although Overdose UpStation withdrew a few days before the start of the tournament. 

In meantime, the winner of the ongoing FIBA Africa Zone 5 qualifier for the AWBL will be found out on Saturday, November 4.
