    KIGALI (FIBA Africa U18 Championship 2016) - Egypt put up a stellar performance to clinch victory over a stubborn DR Congo side 95-68 at the ongoing FIBA Africa U18 Championship.

    In rather dominant fashion, the reigning champions took the lead in the first quarter 27-17 but the debutants were resilient enough to keep the gap within reasonable scoop despite trailing 44-32 at half time.

    Patrick Mwamba Kazumba was at the heart of the Congolese offense and had already dropped 20 points by the end of the third quarter but despite adding nine more, his side failed to tame Egypt.

    Six Egyptian players scored in double figures including Ahmed Khalaf’s team high 18 points as well as Tarek Raafat (13 points) and Omar Youssef and Omar Farag (12 points apiece).

    Abdelrahman Elgindy and Esam Mostafa added 10 points apiece.

    Angola saw off debutants Uganda 105-59 in a stylish manner to rubber stamp their presence at the continental tournament.

    Bruno Fernandes nailed a game high 21 points despite sitting out the second quarter with Tarcio Domingos adding 14 points.

    Egypt and Angola are joint leaders in Group B with a 3-0 record each to indeed spell out the rivalry to be expected on Wednesday evening when they face off in a hugely anticipated game.

    Tunisia inflicted a third straight loss for Benin 86-33 to improve their winning ratio to 2-1. The victory saw them rise to third place in Group B with five points from three games.

    Bilel Jaziri scored 12 points with Ismail Chrigui picking seven rebounds to inspire the North Africans.

    Mali handed hosts Rwanda their first loss 61-40 following a remarkable defensive display to frustrate the home side.

    Rwanda started off with a dominant first quarter 17-9 lead but collapsed in the second scoring just two points. Mali led 24-19 at the half time break.

    Mali capitalized on Rwanda’s continuous turnovers to outscore them in the next two quarters and indeed Ousmane Traore’s 26 points did the job to maintained his side’s unbeaten run.

    Algeria edged a resilient Cote d’Ivoire 58-45 in a tightly contested game to go joint second in Group A.

    Mostefa Braik collected 18 points while Abderrahmane Hailouf picked an impressive 14 rebounds to guide Abidat Mohamed’s side to their second victory so far.
