MAPUTO (FIBA Africa Champions Cup for Women 2016) - Nigerian champions First Bank used a strong second-half to beat Primeiro D'Agosto 62-54 to claim the FIBA Africa Champions Cup for Women (ACCW) 2016 bronze medal on Sunday.

Paced by Nkeshi Akashili, the Nigerians trailed 32-11 at the break, but they made sure to capitalise from D'Agosto's sloppy offense and poor defense to finish on the ACCW podium for the first time since 2011 when they finished runners-up as hosts of the tournament.

Even though Leia Dongue - the only D'Agosto player to score in double figures - finished with a game-best 17 points, the game belonged to Akashili, who had a team-best 14 points. The Nigerian international was completed by her national team teammate Chioma Udeaja who added 11 points and game-best 8 rebounds.

After finishing their Group Phase undefeated last year's ACCW champions return home empty-handed.
