CAIRO (FIBA Africa Champions Cup 2016) - There is only one undefeated team at the FIBA Africa Champions Cup (ACC) 2016 following AS Sale's 90-78 defeat to GS Petroliers on a day of another shocking result.
The Moroccans champions, who played their third game in as many days, resisted as far as the final three minutes when GS Petroliers inflicted the final blows to end AS Sale's Group B three-game winning streak.
Although Abdesslem Dekkiche led the way for the Algerians with 20 points, it was GS Petroliers' bench that proved crucial outscoring AS Sale's 49-11.
In the absence of the team's leading scorer Brandon Freeman, who seems to have been rested, AS Sale forward Abdelhakim Zouita had a game-high 21 points.
In spite of the loss, AS Sale currently lead the Group with a 3-1 mark.
With AS Sale's defeat, hosts El Ahly, who didn't play on Sunday, remain the only undefeated team in the competition with a 3-0 record.
In Sunday's first game, Nigeria champions Kano Pillars rallied from an 18-point deficit to stun eight-time FIBA ACC winners Primeiro D'Agosto 83-79.
The Angolans led all but 2:15 minutes, moved the ball well, but they might have regretted, making only 16 of their 26 free-throws attempts.
In the absence of two D'Agosto key players Emmanuel Quezada and Tarik Kirksay, Braulio Morais tried to spark the Angolan champions, making 5 of his 9 three-pointers en route to 21 points, but Nigerian internationals Abubakar Usman and Ejike Ugboaja made sure to stir the Angolan-Nigerian rivalry combining for 40 points.
Meanwhile, Cameroon's champions Nzui-Manto wasted a superb opportunity of causing the biggest upset of the day.
They entered the final quarter leading 54-49, extended the lead to 15 points with 7 minutes left, but the Tunisian champions Club Africain, inspired by Kyle Vinales, used a 19-4 run in the last four minutes of the game to win 79-77.
Vinales and Nzui-Manto's Felix Bogmis finished with game-highs 23 points apiece.
In the process, the Cameroonians fell to 0-4 in Group A, while Club Africain climbed to second place thanks to their 2-1 record.
Meanwhile, BEAC Basketball were luckier than their fellow Cameroonians, beating Uganda's City Oilers 67-65.
