LJUBLJANA (Adriatic League) - Partizan Belgrade put an exclamation point on their terrific Adriatic League campaign by capturing the title at the weekend in Ljubljana.
After narrowly overcoming hosts Union Olimpija, Nikola Pekovic and Co thrashed fellow Serbians Hemofarm 69-51.
The triumph was the second in a row in the competition for Partizan – the first time a team has ever won back-to-back crowns in the NLB.
Pekovic, the 21-year-old Montenegro international who has been sensational for Dusko Vujosevic’s side this season, poured in 22 points on eight of 10 shooting in the championship win and was voted MVP of the Final Four.
In the semi-final win over Ljubljana, Pekovic had been even better with 31 points including nine in the pivotal third quarter when they fought back from a 45-41 half-time deficit to take the lead for good.
Hemofarm had advanced to the final with an 81-72 upset of Zadar.
