To promote physical activity and well-being among children aged 5-12, the FIBA Foundation organizes annual Mini Basketball Conventions on each continent.

These conventions equip Mini Basketball delegates with the knowledge and tools to engage kids in fun and playful basketball activities. Through practical and theoretical sessions, participants learn effective teaching methods and exchange best practices to expand the Mini Basketball movement globally.

To leave a legacy for the hosting country and boost the Mini Basketball momentum, a Jamboree is organized which gathers children to play basketball in a fun and exciting environment.

In 2023, 3 Regional Mini Basketball Conventions were organized respectively in Spain, Tanzania, and Mexico, educating over 70 delegates that are now equipped to further develop the Mini Basketball Movement within their respective countries.

Hosted by the Spanish Basketball Federation and under the umbrella of the FIBA Foundation and FIBA Europe, the European Mini Basketball Convention was held in Alcobendas, Spain. The 8th edition of the event saw 38 participants from across Europe being awarded their FEMBCC certificate after a two-year program that started in Pecs, Hungary, with theoretical and practical sessions delivered virtually and in person.

With the support of FIBA Africa and the FIBA Foundation, the Tanzanian Basketball Federation hosted the 2023 African Mini Basketball Convention in Daar es Sallam. 19 delegates from 16 African countries attended the event. Among those, there were multiple successful applicants from the FIBA Foundation Propose a Project initiative who are now equipped with additional tools to further develop their respective projects.

Over three days, the delegates and 50 local coaches put together a very memorable convention where they promoted the values of the game to local children.

The 2023 Mini Basketball Convention of the Americas was held in León, Mexico, and organized jointly by the FIBA Foundation and ADEMEBA, the Mexican National Federation. 17 delegates from Latin-American National Federations attended the convention, plus a Special Olympics representative. The program included both theoretical and practical sessions, plus interactive workshops led by the FIBA Foundation and supported by FIBA Americas.

Throughout the weekend, the participants had the opportunity to put into practice their learnings during the jamboree. The convention ended with delegates developing their Mini Basketball plan for 2024 within accountability groups.

The FIBA Foundation, the FIBA Regional Offices, and respective National Federations will keep working together every year to organize regional Mini Basketball Conventions around the globe and to expand the Mini Basketball Movement. The delegates are now ready to develop grassroots basketball within their own regions and introduce millions of children to the game.
