    TRIPOLI (Afrobasket 2009) - Mozambique Sunday picked its first ever win in the classification game between it and South Africa with a narrow 69-67 points victory to advance to face Cape Verde who trashed Peoples Republic of Congo by 100-63 points in the other classification game played in the Africa Union Hall in Tripoli.

    The Mozambican saving grace was the deep gap they took in the first quarter 17-05 while effort by the South African to cancel the early lead of the Mozambican from the second quarter through the fourth which they won 19-17, 23-18 and 20-17 was not enough to save them from been confine to fight for position 15-16 which will now battle with Peoples Republic of Congo.

    Neo Mothiba of South Africa led the floor with 20 points and 14 rebounds, Christopher Gabriel’s 17 rebounds, 15 points, Kegorapetse Letsebe 16 points and Cedrick Dennyssen 10 points were not good enough to save them from defeat.

    Mozambique Octavio Magolico led his team with 17 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists; the duo of Gerson Novela and Luis Barros added 14 and 10 points to move their team on which will see them taking on Cape Verde for position 13 and 14 on Monday.
