Philippines rising star Abarrientos wins gold at FIBA 3x3 U23 World Cup shoot-out contest

    XI'AN (FIBA 3x3 U23 World Cup) - The 19-year-old Filipino sensation Rhon Jhay Abarrientos struck gold for the Philippines at the FIBA 3x3 U23 World Cup shoot-out contest in Xi'An, China on October 7, 2018.

    XI'AN (FIBA 3x3 U23 World Cup) - The 19-year-old Filipino sensation Rhon Jhay Abarrientos struck gold for the Philippines at the FIBA 3x3 U23 World Cup shoot-out contest in Xi'An, China on October 7, 2018.

    The nephew of Filipino legend Johnny Abarrientos scored 9 points in the final, including the last money ball. He narrowly edged out Russia star Aleksandr Antonikovskii - who also had 9 - for 6 seconds.

    For once, men proved better shooters than women in the mixed shoot-out contest. The 2 female contestants had won gold and silver at the FIBA 3x3 World Cup 2018 for instance.

    Germany 3x3 rising star Laura Zdravevska netted 8 shots and took home the bronze medal while China sharpshooter Yu Qi finished 4th with 7 points.
