GENEVA (3x3) - On 26 and 27 November a significant number 3x3 stakeholders were united in Geneva to review the 3x3 test season and go over an important up-coming 2012 year.
Around 20 National Federations and FIBA Zones from all over the world were present as well the main 3x3 promoters and project partners; including the NBA.
The first day, focus was turned to the 3x3 rules and the 2011 Test season debrief. Minor changes were made as to the rules used in Rimini for the Youth World Championships.
"The rules are fair and easy to follow", said Fadi Sabbah, Secretary General of Jordan Basketball.
The calendar for the 2012 projected season and beyond was a main point of discussion on the second day. The World Tour is one of the many 3x3 innovations and will allow a number of orgainsers to use their tournaments as qualifiers.
The period is set to last from March to September and take place in six different cities across four continents.
3x3 National Team competitions and related opportunities for National Federations and Zones were also discussed.
Another topic that was of high interest was the "3x3 Planet" or Digital Platform. As of next year every player who will want to participate in a 3x3 FIBA endorsed event, will have to register in the Planet.
Once a player is registered, he or she will receive ranking points for every game played.
"What's great about the Planet is that it's intended for a much larger mass and not just pro-players.", said Brooks Meek, VP of NBA Basketball Operations International.
Overtime the ranking will determine a hierarchy of who the best teams and players are.
Final conclusions concerning the above mentioned topics as well as other various subjects will be taken at the FIBA Central Board meetings on December 10-11 in Madrid.
After the Central Board meetings, FIBA.com will follow-up with a detailed overview of the summits outcome.
FIBA plans to hold another of such reunions in the future with even more participants, to further outline 3x3's long-term path.
