DAKAR (Senegal) - The nations that will compete in the 3x3 basketball tournaments at the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games have now been confirmed with a total of 24 teams ready to step out. Set to take place from November 6-9 in the capital of Senegal, Dakar, this fourth edition of the Games will be historic, since it is the first Olympic sports event to ever take place on African soil. The 3x3 basketball tournaments will be held at the Tour de l'Oeuf, which will also be shared with baseball5, breaking, skateboarding and swimming events. The National Federation 3x3 basketball Youth Rankings as of December 1, 2025 have determined the qualified teams, with additional quality measures seeing only those ranked in the Top 50 being considered. Selection was also subject to Universality measures, which require a balance across each region of Africa, Americas, Asia-Pacific and Europe. Meanwhile each National Olympic Committee (NOC) can only qualify with one gender, except for host nation Senegal who are qualified automatically to both the men's and women's competitions. The participating teams are as follows: Africa Men - Senegal, Algeria, Côte d'Ivoire Women - Senegal, Kenya, Egypt Americas Men - Argentina, Venezuela, Puerto Rico Women - Chile, Mexico Europe Men - Germany, Latvia Lithuania Women - Netherlands, France, Italy Czechia Asia-Pacific Men - Mongolia, Singapore, Solomon Islands Women - China, Fiji, Chinese Taipei The seeding for the 3x3 basketball tournaments will be carried out in due course and will be based on the National Federation 3x3 basketball Youth Rankings as of January 1, 2026. Games will be played across several exciting days of action, with four pools of three teams each making up the initial Group phase. This will take place on Day 1 and Day 2 (November 6 and 7). The best two teams from each group will advance to the Quarter-Finals on Day 3 (November 8), with the Semi-Finals and Medal Games scheduled to take place on Day 4 (November 9). Meanwhile renowned 3x3 basketball Olympic gold medal winner Sonja Greinacher has been appointed as a Role Model for Dakar 2026. The German will work with the aspiring athletes, to share her journey, her values and the lessons learned from competing at the elite level. The initiative has been designed to connect Olympians with Youth Olympic participants, offering mentorship and guidance while promoting the Olympic values of excellence, respect and friendship. ### About FIBA 3x3 Exciting, urban and innovative, 3x3 is inspired by several forms of streetball played worldwide and is considered the world’s number one urban team sport. Steered by FIBA, games see two teams of three players face off on a basketball half-court.
