100 Days to Go: FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2026 celebrates with Tissot countdown clock and exclusive timepiece

    Press Release

A special ceremony has been held in Berlin to celebrate 100 days until the start of the tournament.

BERLIN (Germany) - As excitement continues to build ahead of the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2026 in September, the sense of anticipation has been heightened further by the introduction of a Tissot countdown clock at Berlin Ostbahnhof, alongside the announcement of a historic official timepiece.

On the landmark occasion of 100 days until the big tip-off, representatives from FIBA, Tissot, FIBA Global Partner and Official Timekeeper, the German Basketball Federation (DBB) and the Berlin Senate were all on hand to mark the unveiling of the installation at the train station.

The countdown clock will be visible for over 100,000 commuters to see daily until the start of the competition on September 4, when 16 nations from around the globe will pursue the title of world champions.

The milestone was further highlighted by the unveiling of the Tissot Seastar FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2026 Special Edition, marking the first time the brand has created a dedicated timepiece for a women’s basketball world event. The exclusive watch celebrates both the tournament’s prestige and the continuing global rise of the women's game.

The 40mm watch draws on the familiar colors of basketball, combining a clean white face with bold orange accents. The bezel features a 24-second marking that reflects the pace of the game. It comes with interchangeable straps offering flexibility in style, with the design rounded out by a case back engraving inspired by the Berlin tournament passion wall, mirrored in the presentation box.

Those on hand at the ceremony included FIBA Central Board Member and Deputy Chair of the FIBA Players' Commission, Sonja Vasic; Tissot Marketing Vice President, Matt George; Head of Sports and Volunteering from Berlin Senate, Babette Kibele; and German Basketball Federation Event Director, Tim Ebs.

Meanwhile, reflecting the city's famous urban culture, Berlin-based artist 'Akte One' finalized the graffiti design on the countdown installation moments marking the symbolic transition from 100 to 99.

Two-time FIBA Women's EuroBasket champion and TISSOT MVP at the 2021 edition, and Olympic medalist, Sonja Vasic, commented: "The 100-day milestone is always significant for any event. It feels even more exciting this year because we will see an expanded field of 16 teams for this 2026 edition of the competition - something that reflects how women's basketball continues to surge in popularity.

"FIBA is grateful to its longstanding and trusted Global Partner Tissot for this countdown clock and also the first ever Special Edition watch for this World Cup. It will further promote the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup, our biggest women's event, to an even wider audience."

Tissot CEO Sylvain Dolla stated: “We are proud to be a FIBA Global Partner and to provide the official timekeeping solution for the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2026, placing Tissot at the heart of the competition. Everyone is looking forward to seeing the best players gathering in Berlin, and we are proud to contribute to the excitement of the game with the installation of this Tissot countdown clock.

"Women's basketball is experiencing a powerful global rise, and being part of this journey as a brand is something we deeply value."
