HONIARA (SOLOMON ISLANDS) - Our Telekom Company LTD through its Telekom Television service has been appointed as the host broadcaster for the upcoming FIBA Melanesian Cup and FIBA Women’s Melanesian Cup, set to take place in Honiara from October 13–18, 2025. This partnership marks a pivotal moment for basketball in the Solomon Islands, as the nation prepares to once again welcome top men's and women's teams from across Melanesia, following the success of the Pacific Games in 2023. “We’re proud to partner with TTV Solomons to bring the excitement of the Melanesian Cups to homes across the Oceania region,” FIBA Executive Director – Oceania, Amanda Jenkins said. “This event is more than a tournament, it’s a pathway to the Pacific Games, FIBA Asia Cup, and the FIBA Women’s Asia Cup. It’s an opportunity to showcase the Solomon Islands’ growing leadership in basketball development.”
As the country’s only free-to-air network, TTV Solomons will deliver live coverage, highlights, and behind-the-scenes features across its platforms, ensuring fans from Honiara to the outer provinces, and beyond, can follow every moment of the action. “This is a proud moment for our team,” said Robertson Szetu, Our Telekom’ Chief Operating Officer.

The 2025 edition of these events are especially significant, as it marks the first time Solomon Islands hosts both the men’s and women’s events. The top two teams from each event will qualify for the 2027 Pacific Games in Tahiti, making this a high-stakes competition for national pride and future international opportunities. The Solomon Islands Basketball Federation (SIBF), in collaboration with FIBA and local partners, has been working to prepare for the event, building on the momentum from hosting the 2023 Pacific Games. “The FIBA Melanesian Cups are more than a competition,” said William Lai, President of the Solomon Islands Basketball Federation, “It’s a celebration of our shared identity, resilience, and the power of sport to inspire the next generation.” The FIBA Melanesian Cup and FIBA Women’s Melanesian Cup will be hosted by Solomon Islands Basketball Federation in conjunction with the National Sports Commission from Monday October 13 to Saturday October 18. All games will be livestreamed on the FIBA YouTube channel.
