PIRAEUS (Greece) - A FIBA Women's EuroBasket record-high attendance for the 21st century of 10,503 has been set as co-hosts Greece matched up against Türkiye for a pivotal Group Phase encounter.
The historic Final Round landmark was set at the Peace and Friendship Stadium in Piraeus, Greece as both teams went up against each other in pursuit of a precious Quarter-Finals ticket.
The attendance eclipsed the impressive 8,860 fans who watched Greece play France in their previous game. Both crowds in Piraeus also surpassed the previous best of the century, which was 8,800 at the 2009 edition in the Latvian capital of Riga, when the host nation faced Russia.
The all-time record was set at the FIBA Women’s EuroBasket 1952 in Moscow when just over 20,000 fans packed into the Dynamo Stadium. There was also a similar crowd for the FIBA Women’s EuroBasket 1960 Final in Sofia.
