Schedule
Teams
France - Last winning the title in 2009, France are chasing a staggering 9th consecutive podium finish. They are packed with stars like Iliana Rupert, Valeriane Ayayi and Janelle Salaun and never lost a qualifying game.
Greece - This year's co-hosts had never reached the tournament until 2001, but have since qualified for 11 of 13 editions. Will they show their teeth and make a splash at home led by Mariella Fasoula, Artemis Spanou and Co?
Switzerland - Their last appearance came back in 1956 which means that they will step out at the event for the first time 69 years. They have a real rising star in Lin Schwarz who has has made people sit up and take notice.
Türkiye - Featuring at an impressive 11th consecutive edition, they were one of four unbeaten teams in the Qualifiers. If Teaira McCowan plays, they have a potential MVP, while Sevgi Uzun and Elif Bayram are in great form.
Favorites: It would be an epic shock if France didn't take pole position and do so without tasting defeat. Even with a couple of big-hitter unavailable, they have a stacked roster packed with classy players and a super mix of experience and youth. Plus, their defense is amongst the best in the global game - as evidence at Paris 2024.
Key matchup: Türkiye against Greece is going to be monumental. Arch rivals in any sporting competition, there is so much riding on this one. It looks on paper like a possible straight shootout for second place in the Group. It will also see a potentially brilliant on-floor matchup between heavyweight stars Teaira McCowan and Mariella Fasoula.
Underdogs: Switzerland have nothing to lose after their long-awaited return and could have been placed in a worse group, meaning they might be quietly confident of completing a major surprise. Their first instinct will be to stay in the games for as long as possible. If they do take any games down the stretch, you can't rule out some drama.
Star: Iliana Rupert (FRA)
Iliana Rupert comes into this summer off the back of a fantastic EuroLeague Women season with Mersin and she is now a bonafide leader for France. Her size, skills and maturity are fundamental to the way France play and expect her to be amongst the leaders in scoring and rebounding.
Rising star: Leila Lacan (FRA)
Leila Lacan has only just turned 21-years old and yet is playing at her second edition, having won bronze two years ago in Ljubljana. The guard also now has an Olympic silver medal in her collection and just won the French title with Basket Landes. Smart, quick and getting better with every game, she could be influential.
