PIRAEUS (Greece) - Frontrunners France became the first team at FIBA Women's EuroBasket 2025 to make the Quarter-Finals after easing out co-hosts Greece in front of another huge crowd. Türkiye recovered from their agonizing opening day loss to France by moving past Switzerland and registering their first Group A success to set up a blockbuster game on Saturday against arch rivals Greece.
France find identity to complete first part of their mission
A total of 8,860 fans watched France fly impressively past Greece 92-56 as they stepped safely to the next phase, with the attendance figure setting a 21st century record in the competition. Although they didn't have it all their own way in the opening 15 minutes and could only snap the contest open with a strong run either side of the half-time break.
Janelle Salaun continued her great work with another classy offering of 17 points, supported by some nice work from Iliana Rupert. The center recorded 15 points after a 6 of 7 shooting performance, with Migna Toure also adding 15 points.
Türkiye bounce back to tear down Swiss
Teamwork from Türkiye was the main pillar of their 91-67 triumph against Switzerland as they got rolling at the second time of asking. They dominated inside the paint and that strength inside and bench depth made it another tough assignment for underdogs Switzerland, although to their credit they pushed and fought hard.
Teaira McCowan clocked another double-double of 19 points and 12 rebounds, Alperi Onar brought the noise in the backcourt with a super 17 points and 8 assists, while Elif Bayram posted a cameo show of 9 points and 10 boards and 3 assists.
