BERLIN (Germany) – With just over two weeks to go before the start of the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup in Berlin, the FIBA YouTube Channel is setting pulses racing with a series of documentaries and player portraits ahead of the event.

On August 20, FIBA will release The World on Our Shoulders, a documentary exploring the history of the Women’s World Cup.

The extraordinary film premiered in Berlin in April, ahead of the Draw and FIBA Hall of Fame ceremony, and was warmly received by the privileged audience in attendance.

FIBA describes the film as a journey through the history of the competition, from its beginnings in 1953 to the upcoming 2026 edition in Berlin.

Alongside this feature, the FIBA YouTube channel will also showcase three player portraits featuring stars expected to take the court in Berlin, as well as the Uncovered series, which revisits legendary moments from Women’s World Cup history.

Zandalasini has been one of the best players in Europe for a decade and narrowly missed out on qualifying for the tournament in 2017 while Zhang is only 19 but already a tower of power for China, a country that finished runners-up to the USA at the 2022 World Cup in Australia.

Fiebich is the most accomplished of the trio, having played at the 2024 Olympics with Germany. She has twice earned league MVP honors in Spain and also captured a WNBA title with the New York Liberty.

The Uncovered series focuses on great moments and games from the history of the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup. The first release goes back to Nigeria’s historic run to the Quarter-Finals in 2018, including their thrilling win against Greece that made them the first African team to reach the last eight on the global stage.

The FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2026 will take place in Berlin from September 4–13, with 16 teams competing for the world title.
