A draw was held ahead of the competition where the teams discovered their path to hoisting the FIBA U19 Women's Basketball World Cup trophy on February 4, 2025 at 11:00 AM (GMT +1) at Nova radnice (New town hall) in Brno, Czechia.
Draw Principles
The participating teams of the FIBA U19 Women's Basketball World Cup 2025 were distributed in four pots created to reflect the strength of the continents regarding the current FIBA World Ranking Girls, presented by Nike and the results of the previous FIBA U18 Women's Continental Cups 2024.
The pots are as follows:
POT 1: Czechia, USA, France, Canada POT 2: Spain, Australia, China, Israel POT 3: Mali, Portugal, Japan, Korea POT 4: Hungary, Argentina, Brazil, Nigeria
The teams from each pot were distributed in four groups and assigned competition numbers.
There was a maximum of 1 team from Africa, Americas and Asia/Oceania in the same group.
There was a minimum of 1 and maximum of two teams from Europe in the same group.
Ivana Vecerova and Eva Viteckova performed the draw
Synonymous with basketball in Czechia and both former players at the highest level in Brno, the duo were on hand to perform the draw.
A graduate of the FIBA Players' Mentorship Program, Vecerova is a two-time Olympian who played at two FIBA Women's Basketball World Cups, as well as in five editions of the FIBA Women's EuroBasket, winning the competition in 2005. A year later, she was crowned a EuroLeague Women champion with Gambrinus Brno.
Three-time Olympian Viteckova is part of the FIBA U19 Women's Basketball World Cup 2025 Local Organizing Committee and shared many of the successes experienced by her former teammate - including the FIBA Women's EuroBasket and EuroLeague Women titles. Viteckova featured in three editions of the FIBA Basketball World Cup and six different FIBA Women's EuroBasket competitions.
