STOCKHOLM (Sweden) - Spain successfully defended their FIBA U18 Women's EuroBasket title after completing a dominant unbeaten run in the Swedish capital.
They capped another impressive campaign with an emphatic 82-46 victory over France in the Final, securing their seventh title in the history of the competition.
The title marked Spain's eighth podium finish in the past 10 editions and 20th overall, while France extended their own streak to six consecutive podiums.
Somto Okafor was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player after leading Spain with an impressive 15.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, 1.4 steals per game for an average efficiency of 16.4.
She was joined in the All-Star Five by Astrid Courbot of runners-up France, Finland's Anna Gardziella, Belgium's Laura Vilcinskas and Croatian sensation Olivia Vukosa, who finished as the tournament's leading scorer and set a new single-game scoring record with 46 points.
Earlier in the day, last year's runners-up Finland secured another podium finish with a 75-52 victory over Serbia in the Third-Place Game.
There was also joy for fifth-placed Belgium, who ended their tournament on a high by beating Poland to claim the final European spot - alongside the top four teams - at next year's FIBA U19 Women's Basketball World Cup in China.
Meanwhile, Israel headlined the three teams promoted from Division B after winning the tournament in Tulcea, Romania. Runners-up Romania and third-placed Lithuania will also step up to Division A next summer.
They will replace Sweden, Montenegro and Hungary, who occupied the bottom three places in this year's Division A standings.
