FIBA U18 Women’s AmeriCup groups set after official draw

The tournament set to take place June 9–15 in Irapuato, Mexico, now has its path to the title defined.

MIAMI (United States) – The groups for the FIBA U18 Women’s AmeriCup 2026 were confirmed following the official draw held on Monday in Miami, Florida. The tournament will be played at the Inforum in Irapuato, Mexico, from June 9–15. Following the draw, the groups are as follows:

Prior to the draw, teams were paired based on their positions in the youth FIBA World Ranking, presented by Nike. They were then selected at random, along with a placement number that determines the order of the games.

    New competition system

This edition will be played under the new youth competition system in the Americas, which comes into effect in 2026. This was approved by the FIBA Americas Board during its Mid-Term Congress in 2025:

    • Each team will play one game against every opponent in their group

    • The first-place teams from each group will advance directly to the Semi-finals

    • The last-place teams from each group will play for fifth to eighth place

    • The second-place teams will face the third-place teams from the opposite group (2B vs. 3A and 2A vs. 3B). The winners will advance to the Semi-finals to face the group leaders, while the losers will join the last-place teams for positions five through eight

The FIBA U18 Women’s AmeriCup awards four spots to the FIBA U19 Women’s Basketball World Cup 2027.
