ABIDJAN (Cote d'Ivoire) - Egypt powered past Uganda 80-50 in the quarterfinals of the FIBA U18 Women's Afrobasket 2026 with a dominant first half and a significant size advantage, booking their place in the semifinals.
Egypt set the tone early, building a 43-30 lead by halftime. They maintained their intensity in the second half, outscoring Uganda 20-11 in the third quarter and 17-9 in the fourth to secure a 30-point victory.
Their size advantage proved decisive, allowing them to control the paint and dictate the pace at both ends of the floor.
Leila Eissa led all scorers with 14 points, 5 rebounds, and 1 assist.
Yasmin Ahmed also impressed with six points, 11 rebounds, and nine assists for an efficiency rating of 20. Eissa and Hania Hassabelnaby combined for 27 points, contributing to Egypt's balanced offensive attack.
For Uganda, Brandine Kyalimpa led with eight points and a team-high seven efficiency rating. Maria Nanyonga and Melissa Taliba each added eight points.
Nanyonga pointed to a lack of fight as the reason for Uganda's loss: "We didn't fight as hard as we should have."
Egypt's head coach, Tarek Abouzied, credited his team's physical advantage, noting that their size was a key factor in the win.
Egypt improved to 3-0 all-time against Uganda, with their first meeting dating back to 2016.
