    Slovenia claim maiden FIBA U18 EuroBasket title

    Slovenia added the U18 title to their recent U20 crown

    The title triumph against the hosts follows the FIBA U20 EuroBasket success last month.

    TRENTINO (Italy) - Slovenia lifted the FIBA U18 EuroBasket title for the first time, after defeating hosts Italy in the Final, on Sunday.

    They started strong on the way to an 88-71 victory, with Stefan Joksimovic leading the way with 24 points, and Lukas Bojovic adding 21.

    Joksimovic earns MVP for Slovenia, headlines All-Star Five

    Joksimovic was named tournament MVP after finishing with averages of 23.1 points, 6.7 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game in leading Slovenia to the title.

    The 17-year-old guard was joined in the All-Star Five lineup by Italy's Papa Cheickh Niang, along with France's Hugo Yimga; Diego Niebla from Spain, and Leonard Kroger of Germany.

    Last year's runners-up France returned to the podium as they defeated Spain 74-69 in the Third Place Game.

    The top five teams all qualified for the FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup 2027, with Germany taking the final spot with an emphatic 99-69 success against Greece.

    Meanwhile, Netherlands, Poland and Belgium earned promotion from FIBA U18 EuroBasket 2026, Division B, and the trio will replace Latvia, Slovakia and Bulgaria in Division A next summer.
