    Nikola Janichikj named MVP in double celebration

    Janichikj rose above all others as MVP in leading North Macedonia to the title in Skopje.

    SKOPJE (North Macedonia) - Nikola Janichikj had double reason to celebrate after being named MVP of the FIBA U18 EuroBasket 2024, Division B tournament having led North Macedonia to success.

    Janichikj headlines the All-Star Five in Skopje, in which he is joined by his teammate Marko Lukanoski, Austria's duo of Flynn Schott and Imran Suljanovic with Aleksandar Gavalyugov of Bulgaria rounding out the lineup.

    The Most Valuable Player of the tournament has every reason to smile after completing a stellar performance; an unstoppable scorer ultimately only improved on his 21.6 points per game that he averaged until the Final. Janichikj scored 30 in the Final to win it all, sinking 4 three-pointers and also adding 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals in the process.

    The big man was always on the verge of a double-double, ultimately averaging double digits in both scoring and rebounding, where he came in second on the charts. His performances in Quarter-Finals and Semi-Finals provided a much needed push for the hosts as he put up 17 points and 14 rebounds, and 20 and 16, respectively.

    Suljanovic led all the scorers with 22.4 points on average and also provided a couple of big performances when most needed - in the Semi-Finals win against Poland when he scored 28 points, also with 34 points featuring six threes in the Group Phase against Georgia.

    In addition to the event's leading scorer, Austria also had the top rebounder in Schott. The big man averaged 10.3 rebounds per game and made a double-double his standard. Schott's Semi-Finals performance against Poland is a testimony to that with 25 points and 16 rebounds along with 5 assists, 3 blocks and 3 steals.

    Aleksandar Gavalyugov - Bulgaria

    Aleksandar Gavalyugov - Bulgaria

    As the Bulgarians got their hands on the third spot and the promotion, it is in large thanks to Aleksandar Gavalyugov who led the show throughout the tournament. Bulgaria's top man averaged 19.4 points, 8.4 assists and 6 rebounds per game, which put him on the second place in the charts for assists. His Group Phase performance against Montenegro was something to behold with 26 points, 11 assists and 8 rebounds with 4 steals.
