ISTANBUL (Türkiye) - Joaquim Boumtje Boumtje showed why he is one of the top prospects at the FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup 2026 as the forward swatted seven shots against Japan to set a USA single game record for blocks.
Boumtje Boumtje was an impenetrable force in the paint for Japan in USA's 128-66 win, especially in the first quarter. Over a 2:01 minute stretch, the FIBA debutant swatted four Japanese shots. He added two more in the second quarter to tie the USA record which was held by Diamond Stone in 2014 also against Japan.
He added a USA record-setting seventh block at the 7:46 minute mark in the third period.
The all-time FIBA U17 World Cup record is nine blocks, done twice - by Jonghyun Lee of Korea in 2010 against Spain and Egypt's Moatasz Hosny agianst Lithuania in 2012.
